In recent years, foreign foods have become a regular part of the British diet. Indian and Chinese dishes are particularly popular for evening meals. Take-aways became extremely popular in the 1980's. The traditional British take-away is fish and chips eaten with salt and vinegar and served in an old newspaper. The British are famous their love of sweet things and afternoon tea with sandwiches.
I found some interesting facts about take-away in Britain. So, there was a survey in UK which showed that the average Brit forked out £110 per month on takeaway meals every month. People were asked why they were ready to spend so much money on it. Many of them answered they didn't have the time or inclination to cook at home. Men have the biggest taste for fast food as they get through an extraordinary 151 takeaways a year, while the figure for women is 126. But from my point of view, they just can't cook smth, because their favourite takeaway is Chinese food and it's obviously that not every Brit is able to cook it)
Also almost every Brit understands that it's unhealthy to eat this food very often, but they have to confess that "after working a late shift it takes a lot of effort to prepare a meal when you get home and it is so much easier to spend a little money on food which could be prepared for some minutes" (Ben Hardings, 26, a sales assistant from Portsmouth)
